Drop It Like It’s Hopscotch is an architectural installation that harvests pedestrian footsteps from walking, running, hopping and dancing. The folly consists of a colorful arrangement of piezo electrical panels which takes mechanical movement and converts it into energy! The pavilion will be accompanied by a QR code image at either entry ways that will take you to a dance playlist. Visitors can listen to a playlist, curated by the Beam students, on their wireless devices to host their own “silent disco”.

The structural frame is composed of welded and painted steel. Floating lanterns will float over the dance floor and will be powered by the energy harvested from the visitors. After the installation is taken part, the piezo electric panels can be reassembled and repurposed for high traffic areas, such as time square or madisson park, to continue to harvest mechanical energy.
